I thought it an opportune time, as the Holidays are upon us to share one of my favorite places in L.A., The Brentwood Country Mart. For the Holidays Santa visits the Mart beginning Saturday, there is gift wrapping, Holiday cookies, a gift drive, and Carolers for the month of December. The Brentwood Country Mart is an absolute jem, created in the spirit of the classic (and much frequented by all of us here) Farmer’s Market on Third & Fairfax (by the way, best Mexican food ever @ Loteria). Built in 1948, the Mart has a feeling of a long-since lost era of the outdoor shopping center, with it’s statuesque red barn exterior and personalized stores. Inside you can shop many a lovely boutique, from James Perse to Marie Mason (a must is the scented lotion Hippy Chick). Stop for lunch at Barney’s and then find some lovely personal stationery at Sugar Paper (also one of our fave wedding paper vendors). The owner of the Mart has plans of trying to replicate this charm by expanding to Malibu and Santa Barbara. However, it my humble opinion, there is a magic to this place that feels like you are transported back to old-Hollywood and that cannot be reproduced.

So, today we are sharing our fave pick of the Season. Sugarboo Designs is possibly the coolest pick that we covet this Christmas. Sugarboo is a company who makes handmade goodness in Buckhead, Georgia. There are so many adorable things to choose from in their collection. From vintage, reclaimed wood artwork with perfection like” all you need is love” to pillows and driftwood pieces. Gorg {eous}! We couldn’t resist buying one for our little lady. Check it.
Books are always a timeless gift and obviously a hand-written inscription in the jacket makes it that much more personal for the recipient. Here are some of our top picks for this Holiday season. For the Modernist entertainer, Madmen obsessed, 1960s enthusiast, the guide to making Vintage Cocktails is perfect. For your literati friends Vanity Fair’s Proust Questionnaire is just high-brow enough for you to gain some cred. The Sartorialist blog has a book filled with beautifully simple fashion images of everyday (fashionable) people walking city streets. The impeccably stylish Kelly Wearstler’s new book “Hue” is a wonderful inspirational gift for all those obsession with design. Wearstler has brought back old Hollywood design and done it with her own Modernist twist. And, don’t forget your little ones… There’s an artfully illustrated edition of “Puff the Magic Dragon” with a corresponding CD. If none of these seem just right and you’re shopping for the traditionalist, here’s a list of The Literary Canon.
So, here are some of our faves for this week. Have a little one to buy for?? I love these adorable tights by the Danish clothing company MP. What little lady doesn’t look super cute in striped tights? For you fellow New Yorkers, I found my daughter’s at Bu & the Duck in Tribeca. I found beautiful cake stands at Fishes Eddy this weekend. Hand-made from a vintage cast–we couldn’t resist them! Also, the Wizard of Oz glasses were so campy. A must-buy. Ideal for gift giving! Lastly, kick your rain boots up a notch and check these Isle Jacobsen boots. Love them. A fresh alternative to your Hunter’s. Handmade, Scandinavian designed perfection. You can find them @ Oak 28 Bond St. NYC. Enjoy!
So, as we are beginning the process of Christmas shopping, we thought it might be helpful to share our weekly finds. Here are two lovelies I picked up this weekend. Le Labo has a new vintage candle. Figue 15 is a personal fave. And, John Derian trays are adorable, personal gifts. I love (and own a few of) the trays with musings taken from telegrams and vintage letters, such as this list of “articles in the attic.” So charming & smart.
Hi everyone! We’ve had a crazy holiday season, and wanted to apologize for the slow posting. Check out our Real Wedding in the Winter ‘09 issue of Elegant Bride as well as our Featured Engagement Party from Laguna Beach, CA and Trend Advice. We will post images soon!
I know I’ve been slow with the posting recently. All of this holiday cheer can be very time consuming. This week I plan to post a follow up to our photo shoot as well as a new wedding. So come back later this week. In the mean time, go and check out Hostess with the Mostess , they have tons of fun ideas for the holiday decorating.
Tis the season to go shopping. I have been spending the past 24 on a mad dash shopping spree to check as many people off my gift list as possible. Finding the right gift takes thoughtful time and effort, but once you know what your buying, the rest is easy, at least if you live in the NYC area, where you can find everything. Anyhow, I will resist my temptation to post ideas for Christmas gifts. So, to the reason for this post, while I was doing some online research I found this stainless steel bar of soap at the Moma store. I had never heard of washing your hands with stainless steel, but apparently it effortlessly eliminates food odors. I cannot vouch for the effectiveness of this product, but it definitely sounds like something I might want to pick up. I have a sensitive nose, and dislike food smells, so this is pretty cool if you ask me.
I promise everyone I will be back this coming week with more images of fantastic events we’ve produced.
Hello, happy Thanksgiving again, I didn’t think I would be back until Friday, but I saw this thing on TV about adopting a turkey and I thought it was very cool. Head to this site to save a Thanksgiving turkey. Although I’m a vegetarian, we are, unfortunately, having a turkey for our Thanksgiving dinner, so I am certainly no activist. Adopting farm animals seems to be gaining in popularity, you west coasters probably have friends who have adopted chickens. Dogs at weddings is a trend I told you about over the summer, who knows, maybe people will have more animals at their weddings in the future.
